The Making Of: GOODBYE
Goodbye has been a long lasting project that began the early stages of Pre-Production around April 2018. Ryan King, the lead singer of Prisbros, called me up with an idea that I can only describe as “very ambitious.” The idea developed into a one shot style video starting in forest taking place in his family’s cabin in the woods. The time came to shoot this thing and I drove the 3 hours up to the cabin with my Jeep packed full of gear.
Since it was going to be a one shot I rigged up my heavy camera to my glidecam. I kept it all rigged up so I could change some settings as we shot, which just made it even more heavy.
I didn’t have any support to take the weight off so I felt the full weight of the camera the entire shoot. Talk about a workout.
I ran into a lot of obstacles during the production of this music video; walking backwards over root covered paths, falling down a small hill while filming and taking 13+ takes on two shots until we had to move on due to time constraints.
The biggest challenge to making this music video was trying to hide the cuts where ever we could. Since it was a very run and gun type of video we didn’t have much time to dial in the cuts and had to work under a tight deadline.
But we made it work and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Though of course I wish I did things differently in hindsight – but that’s the life of a director/editor right?
It was a great experience and a lot of fun to make. Everyone involved brought their “A” game and did an amazing job to bring this music video to life.
Thank you Prisbros for creating such awesome music and being such a pleasure to work with.
